RUBIO PBS Plant

Process visualization of an environmentally friendly plastic production for Web and Augmented Reality

The production of bio-based plastics is an emerging and promising industry in Central Germany. With the interactive visualization of a modern compact plant we accompany this process with likewise trend-setting WebXR technologies. You can experience the web application for yourself here: Link to Rubio Web App

RUBIO, the “Regional Entrepreneurial Alliance for the Development of Value Chains for Technical Bioplastics in Central Germany,” is a collaboration of 18 partners focusing on the research and development of innovative materials. Special attention is given to Polybutylene Succinate (PBS), a biodegradable plastic that can be produced from locally available plant residues. prefrontal cortex has been tasked with creating a visualization of the facility that provides a detailed explanation of the material processing process. Through close cooperation with the alliance partners, information has been gathered, processed, and depicted in a 3D model of the facility.

Interactive hotspots provide users with detailed insights into the process steps, starting with the biotechnological preparation of the plant residues through to compounding and final storage. To enable access across different platforms, a web-based solution has been implemented. A modern web browser is all that is needed to access the application. If the device supports Augmented Reality (AR), for example through ARKit/ARCore, the facility can be easily placed on a table, providing a glimpse into the future development of plastic production even today.
