DigiVid19

Digital Breathing Therapy with WebXR

DigiVid19 is a research project on digital physiotherapeutic breathing therapy for Long Covid patients based on VR. The focus is on the investigation of breathing exercises, which are designed to encourage regular repetition by patients through interactive elements in the virtual environment. The web app can be tested right away in the browser (currently only in German): prefrontalcortex.de/digivid

The exercises in the web app follow the same sequence as an analog physiotherapeutic breathing therapy, so they can be practiced independently at home using virtual reality. Because every day is different, DigiVid19 lets you choose between three different sets of exercises with different intensities: Light, Medium and Heavy. This keeps your workout flexible.

We developed DigiVid19 for WebXR with the Needle Engine from the ground up. Thus, the exercises can be used on different VR headsets and patients can start directly without extra installation. In addition, this also allows us to superimpose the therapist directly into the patient’s own living room through AR and train in familiar surroundings. New mixed reality headsets like the Quest 3 already enable this form of training. On the computer, therapists can demonstrate individual exercises from the web app in direct conversation or respond directly to patients’ questions about these.
