A Digital Tour Through the Neues Museum
For the Neues Museum Nürnberg (NMN), we created a digital architecture guide that offers new perspectives on the building, how it was built and the area around it.
Volker Staab’s architecture makes the Neues Museum Nürnberg a distinctive building. That is why the guid focuses on the building itself: its history and the particulars of its design. At its core is a 3D model of the entire museum, which we recreated in detail. Visitors can look into several levels of the building, follow camera flythroughs of its rooms and learn things a regular visit doesn’t reveal.
At 16 stations inside and around the building, the guide offers audio commentary, including the planners in their own words, as well as images, before-and-after comparisons and AR features. Some content is hands-on: small creative tasks invite visitors to look at the architecture on site with fresh eyes and train their attention and observation skills. A separate audio track is available for children. The guide is available in German and English, and since several stations are outdoors, it can also be used when the museum is closed.
The concept was developed in close collaboration with the NMN’s education team. We built the web app so that the team can add texts, images and audio themselves through the existing CMS of the NMN website. We created the 3D model, designed the UI in line with the museum’s visual identity and programmed the web app.
